Bird Shield ™ has been tested and found effective in reducing bird use for nesting, loafing and roosting in and upon structures. Original tests were done in five commercial buildings in Lewiston , Idaho . All of the structures had been built between 1880 and 1920, and pigeons had been roosting in them as long as anyone could remember. Prior attempts had been made to remove the pigeons by various means, including trapping and scaring with noise, balloons, and plastic owls. None of these attempts were successful for any reasonable period of time.

During these tests, three buildings were treated with a 50% mixture of Bird Shield ™ and water applied to roosting areas with a hand pump sprayer. On the other two buildings, a similar treatment was made with water only, for comparison. Immediately before the tests, one day, three days, and thirty days after, objective tests of the bird use were made. The number of birds that perched in an area for more than 30 seconds was counted for each building. In the buildings treated with water only, this number did not change significantly over the life of the study. In stark contrast, there was no reportable bird activity observed at the treated buildings.

Similar results have been observed for starlings, sparrows, and woodpeckers in other test environments, however it was sometimes necessary to re-treat two or three times in order to obtain complete control. Subsequent field reports indicate that Bird Shield ™ has also been used to discourage various water birds from using docks, and pigeons from using statutes bridges and other roosting sites.  

Bird Shield ™ has been tested and found effective in reducing the use of turf (grass) by Canada geese. Original testing was done in a public park where geese had become so numerous that officials were considering closing the park for health reasons. Spraying was done with a motorized boom sprayer using one gallon of Bird Shield ™ per acre, in 60 gallons of water.

After the first treatment, the treated areas showed a 27% decrease in use. After a second treatment a week later, the treated area showed an 83% reduction in use. Additional treatments were successful in reducing the permanent goose population from around 3000 geese to about 150. After four years with no additional treatment, the population had not returned to a number that would require re-treatment.

*During the tests it was found that watering the grass had little effect on the repellency of the product, however mowing had a significant impact. It is
therefore suggested that treatment be repeated after each mowing until the geese have left.

*Bird Shield is commonly used for reducing bird use of soccer fields, picnic areas, golf courses and other areas used by the public.

*Subsequent experience has shown that the product works well when sprayed with a hose-end applicator or a hand pump sprayer, however it is very difficult to get enough volume from a hand pump sprayer to penetrate to the bottom of the grass stalk, which is what the geese eat. We have also found that it is often not necessary to treat the entire grassy area, as the geese will usually stay near water, on open areas that allow them a running start when frightened, and occasionally in damp swales where the grass is moist. Treating these spots, and a barrier of about 100 feet around water will usually be successful in reducing or eliminating goose usage.

使用方法

ブルーベリー、サクランボ、食用ブドウ（カリフォルニアを除く全州）

1エーカーにつき0.5〜2.7ガロン（1.15〜6.18有効成分ポンド）を使用して下さい。混合液を業務用又は背負い式噴霧器、手持ちホース、加圧式塗布器、飛行機で撒布して下さい。果物が成熟を始める時や鳥が作物の摂食を始める時に使用を開始して下さい。溶液が全ての果物や葉の表面から流れ落ちるようになるまで全体に撒布して下さい。6〜8日おきか、臭いが感じれない時に使用して下さい。忌避作用の維持に必要なだけ繰り返して下さい。最後の撒布から６〜８日後、或いは製品の全ての臭いや味が消散した後（後に起きた方のいずれか）に収穫して下さい。濡れた表面でのこの製品の使用はしないで下さい。

トウモロコシ（スイートコーン、ポップコーンを含む）：1エーカーにつき１パイントの原液（0.28有効成分ポンド）を空中撒布で使用して下さい。作物が成熟し始めるか鳥が摂食を始める前で収穫の10日前に使用を開始して下さい。5日間隔で収穫まで繰り返して下さい。収穫は最後の使用から5日後に行ってください。

ヒマワリ：近接の棲息エリアを含む1エーカーにつき１パイントの原液（0.28有効成分ポンド）を空中散布で使用して下さい。鳥が作物の摂食を始める時に使用を開始して下さい。忌避作用が維持するように必要に応じて繰り返して下さい。収穫は撒布の7日後に行って下さい。再植は使用の２２日後に行ってください。

米（白米、野生種米を含む）：1エーカーにつき１パイントの原液（0.28有効成分ポンド）を空中撒布で使用して下さい。作物が成熟し始めるか鳥が摂食を始める前で収穫の３０日前に使用を開始して下さい。必要に応じて７日間隔で収穫まで繰り返して下さい。収穫は最後の撒布の７日後に行って下さい。

種子への使用：水浸透済の種子に忌避剤原液の２５％溶液をまぶして下さい。種子は忌避剤に浸さないで下さい。水栽培床に蒔いて下さい。完全に発芽するまで水を欠かさないようにして下さい。

リンゴ：1エーカーにつき1/2ガロンの原液（1.145有効成分ポンド）の比率で空中撒布・地上撒布して下さい。鳥が摂食を始める収穫の約１５日前から撒布を開始して下さい。必要に応じて７日間隔で収穫まで繰り返して下さい。最後の撒布から６〜８日後、或いは製品の全ての臭気や味が消散した後（後に起きた方のいずれか）に収穫して下さい。

非魚類棲息水域、空港及び装飾噴水に関連した一時的水溜り：水域の水量４００に対し１〜２の割合の原液を加えて下さい。[100立方フィート（750ガロン）の水量に対して2〜4ガロン（4.58〜9.16有効成分ポンド）]　深さ、奥行き、幅、形状を考慮し、適切な数学式を使用して静水の体積を見積って下さい。規定の範囲内で水溜りの処理に必要な原液の量を計算して下さい。適切な量が適用されるまで全水域表面に直接に非希釈原液を加えて下さい。忌避作用が維持するように必要に応じて3〜4週間隔で繰り返して下さい。[ニューヨーク州のみ−この製品は非魚類棲息水域、被舗装地域・建設現場・空港近辺の一時的な静水の水溜りでのみ使用出来ます。]

芝生：１エーカーにつき1〜2ガロン（2.29〜4.58有効成分ガロン）の原液と水を使用して下さい。（1000平方フィートに対して0.105〜0.420有効成分ポンド）芝生全体に浸透するように確認して下さい。忌避作用が維持するように必要に応じて7〜14日間隔か、毎芝刈り後に繰り返して下さい。業務用又は背負い式噴霧器、手持ちホース、加圧式噴霧器で撒布する前によく攪拌して下さい。濡れた表面にこの製品を使用しないで下さい。潅水は撒布後最低一時間以上待ってから行って下さい。鳥の締め出しエリアの中、又は近くでのガチョウへの給餌はこの製品の効果を低下させることがあります。

鑑賞植物：水30ガロンに1ガロンの原液（2.29有効成分ポンド）を混合し、葉に朝か夕方に使用して下さい。忌避作用が維持するように必要に応じて7日間隔で繰り返して下さい。業務用又は背負い式噴霧器、手持ちホース、加圧式噴霧器で撒布する前によく攪拌して下さい。濡れた表面にこの製品を使用しないで下さい。潅水は撒布後最低一時間以上待ってから行って下さい。

建造物：水１に対し原液１の割合で混合し、手持ち噴霧器で撒布して下さい。

ツバメ・キツツキ：卵や雛が存在する前に巣に使用して下さい。

家畜給餌施設（納屋）：撒布の前に全ての家畜を外に出す、又は（及び）覆って下さい。鳥が棲み付くか巣がけをした後で日没後に３夜連続で動力噴霧器にて撒布して下さい。スチレン又は幾種かのプラスティック製品とは不適合です。

保管と廃棄：保存と廃棄の際には水、食品、飼料を汚染しないようにして下さい。

保管：臭気による交差汚染の原因となる可能性があるため、最初の容器にのみ保管し、農薬、肥料、食品、飼料と分別して下さい。子供、ペット、家畜が接することがないように保管して下さい。

凍結や容器が直射日光に当たる事を避けて下さい。凍結した場合は解凍し再混合して下さい。使用しない時は容器を密閉して下さい。

忌避剤の廃棄：この製品の使用により生じた廃棄物は、現場又は廃棄施設で全ての臭気又は製品自体が消散するまで直射日光に当てることにより廃棄出来ます。或いは連邦・州規定に基づいて行って下さい。

容器の廃棄：３回洗浄して下さい。リサイクルや再生に出す、穴を開け衛生埋立地に廃棄、又は州・地元自治体により認可された規定に従って下さい。
